Established in 1978, For Arts Sake has forged a reputation as one of the country’s leading specialist printmaking galleries.

Housing among the largest collections anywhere of limited edition, original prints for sale, the gallery represents more than 100 of the very best contemporary British printmakers with 1,000-plus artworks on display for visitors to browse.

We have a vibrant and eclectic calendar of large-scale solo and group exhibitions with our high profile roster of artists, as well as show collaborations with the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and others.

The idea for a gallery focusing on prints was borne during the mid-1970s when, during trips to Chicago and New York, co-founders Brian and Melanie Davis noted a new movement in contemporary art not yet available in Britain.

They began importing graphic and poster art from the US by renowned artists including Reinhard, Patrick Nagel and Stewart Moskowitz, and, 40 years ago, set up their first gallery space in Hendon, north west London.

Alongside the sale of reproduction artworks, the gallery rapidly became known for its bespoke framing service, developing a successful business supplying private art collectors, architects and designers as well as many of the top London advertising agencies, such as Saatchi & Saatchi and Y&R.

Over the years For Arts Sake has continued to provide custom frames to a prestigious roll call of clients, from Terence Conran to Ealing Studios and Ridley Scott Associates, as well as leading hotels and restaurants including the Savoy, the Ritz, Grosvenor House Hotel, Quaglino’s and Bluebird.

In 1984 For Arts Sake opened a second gallery space in Ealing, west London, continuing to offer reproduction art and a specialist framing service. Original limited edition prints were soon added to the work offered for sale and, in 2005, it was decided to specialise only in this highly collectable art form.

The Ealing site was extended in 2014 to house the custom framing shop – offering more than 900 frames to choose from – and an extensive gallery space across two floors, showcasing not only prints but art cards, books and ceramics.

We would love to welcome you to the gallery, where you will be able to look through our collection and talk to our specialist staff about the different prints available.

Alternatively you can shop online, with the convenience of an optional Click and Collect service. We also participate in the Own Art scheme, which aims to make contemporary art accessible to all, allowing purchases to be spread over 10 monthly instalments. Please do ask in the gallery for details.
